Senior Software Engineering Manager

100% Remote only position open to applicants from EU, UK, USA, and Canada.

We are looking for a seasoned and experienced development manager ideally with a strong background in 3D Graphics, has been a developer before, and has managed a team of developers for more than 3 years over various projects who currently resides in the EU, UK, USA, or Canada. Conditions:

  • Work from anywhere in the world but will have to work in CET time zone (Slightly preferred: Europe, Eastern Europe, or East Coast USA).

  • Contractor role – long term, full time and you invoice us. Not an employee position.

  • Unless otherwise stated, a minimum of ~20 to max 40 hours per week - must be able to work weekdays - not weekends.

  • Must be an individual not a development agency.

  • As part of our hiring process you will have a video interview.

  • Strong communication English skills are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Senior Development Manager, you will be responsible for guiding agile software development teams and managing projects from the conceptual stages through the development cycle.

  • You will ensure that the development process, architecture, and standards are followed. You will also be responsible for the team’s code quality, delivery schedule, and cost of the project.

  • Manage software development teams working on a vast range of technologies, specifically 3D graphics (WebGL, AR, VR, Unreal Engine, OpenGL, …), mobile, web, cloud, and many other languages and technologies.

  • Foster a high performing Agile based culture of trust, teamwork, empowerment, accountability, responsiveness, and communication. Set boundaries, success criteria, and measure progress. Suggest success patterns and call out anti- patterns.

  • Minimize roadblocks and maximize opportunities to keep all members of the teams productive, engaged, and fulfilled in their roles.

  • Manage to budget and estimates and communicate when things need to change.

  • You will regularly discuss short- and long-term architectural objectives and occasionally advise on solutions approach, where applicable.

  • Will be managing multiple projects at once.

  • Be able to build trust, encourage an attitude of proactive responsibility and a sense of ownership towards the tasks and projects at hand.

  • Help form and create Specifications and Statements of Work.

  • Lead the process to breakdown complex projects to definable tasks and estimates.

  • Communicate and manage customers and set expectations.

  • Collaborate with leads and production to plan, define, and scope features for projects.

Requirements:

  • High and low level architecture, including strong object oriented design concepts

  • Iterative software development principles

  • Ability to lead a product team, delivering tangible value to customers and the business

  • 3D engine experience

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, including mentorship ability

  • ~5+ years of software development experience

  • ~3+ years of demonstrated management experience (both projects and people)

  • A passion for 3D graphics development

  • Exceptional production skills and data-driven decision making

  • Understanding of modern software engineering and delivering software products on time and on budget

  • Familiar with a broad range of design principles as they apply to software development

  • Ability to provide clear direction, set measurable goals and give insight on industry trends

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.

  • Prior experience owning end-to-end product delivery and managing/leading a diverse software engineering team.

  • ~5+ years professional experience as an engineer including hands-on technical team management.

  • Experience with graphics APIs (WebGL, OpenGL, Metal, DirectX, ...).

  • Bonus to have an understanding of Unreal Engine

  • Detailed understanding of the OS, graphics, networking, and other sub- systems.

  • Experience shipping products requiring stringent runtime performance practices, such as complex mobile or 3D applications or games.

  • Experience working across disciplines to drive solutions.
