Cloud Tech Lead/Manager

You will lead a team and develop Ouster Cloud products through which customers will be able to efficiently manage, process, and visualize lidar data and bring their end applications to life. An eye for high-quality code, scalable architecture and clean APIs is essential. Your customers will be both internal and external, including Ouster's lidar development team, perception team and others.

During a typical week as a Cloud technical lead and team manager, you will work with product managers and stakeholders to define engineering requirements, produce software architectures, design, contribute top-notch code, define architecture, plan for timely execution and coach / develop team members. Additionally you will provide training, mentorship, and guidance for other team members in the broader organization. Come build a new lidar industry with us!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain clean, high-performance, robust cross-platform code.

  • Manage a high performing team of expert Frontend and Backend developers. Assign work, make proper coordination and address day-to-day challenges in the execution.

  • Design and implement features for Ouster Cloud products.

  • Assure the highest possible bar for SW quality and releases meeting customer’s expectations.

  • Engage with the product manager and other stakeholders in the broader organization to capture requirements and translate them to the technical domain.

  • Prototype, design, and implement in-house tools to support internal engineering teams from embedded software to optics and manufacturing in building lidar sensors

  • Document, plan, and track team’s progress and work

  • Demonstrate new products to stakeholders, participate in technical discussions, and respond to feedback graciously

Job Requirements:

  • BS or higher in computer science or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in coding

  • 5+ years of proven record in managing a high performance team and meeting committed deadlines

  • 5+ years of experience in distributed system design with focus on scalability

  • Relational databases (Postgres)

  • Designing usable and performant APIs

  • Cloud platforms (GCP or similar)

  • Fluency in one or more frontend frameworks like React, Angular or Vue. Our stack is currently mostly React.

  • Strong coding skills  in one or more of the following languages: JS / Typescript / Python / Ruby / Go

  • Systems level architectural viewpoint on how to put a solution together from different parts

  • Familiarity with Figma and principles of UI/UX design

  • A solid understanding of how to design, develop, test, and monitor production backend systems

  • Strong understanding of Cloud Security best practices and standards

  • Experience with Gitlab CI or other CI/CD systems

  • Knowledge of WebGL and general interest in 3d visualization (three.js)

  • Good understanding of the frontend toolchain like Webpack, Babel

  • Strong foundations in agile SW development

Bonus points:

  • Experience with Electron based tools

  • Experience with cross-platform development, especially Windows or macOS

  • Network programming experience

  • Web assembly

  • Agile development processes based on SAFe4.0

  • Past experience working with hardware products
