Millions of players globally have downloaded GC to make friends, explore social worlds, and compete to become a star. Our community, which initially formed around social basketball, is rapidly expanding to include new interests and gameplay—like football, baseball, and more.

As our first Engineer Systems Engineer at IRL Studios, you will build and maintain the supporting systems that power the content delivery for Gym Class. This role drives efficient management and delivery of avatars, worlds, props, and accessories. You’ll collaborate closely with our co-founders, engineers, artists, and designers to establish scalable solutions that enhance the player experience. While VR expertise is optional, we require a strong background in Unity development, C#, optimization, and content delivery via Addressables.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build Content Delivery Systems: Develop and maintain systems for efficient content delivery, focusing on avatars, worlds, props, and accessories.

  • Implement and Manage Asset Pipelines: Design, refine, and optimize the asset pipeline, enabling seamless integration of new content into the game.

  • Optimize Addressables for Content Delivery: Create robust systems using Unity’s Addressables to ensure scalable, flexible, and reliable content delivery.

  • Develop Supporting Infrastructure: Build backend systems to support continuous content updates and ensure high performance across devices.

  • Support Game Expansion: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable the smooth introduction of new content, game modes, and interactive elements.

  • Improve Systems for Scalability: Ensure that systems and infrastructure can scale effectively as the game expands to include new experiences and larger audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Unity Development: Strong experience in developing and shipping Unity-based games (VR experience is welcome, but not required).

  • Knowledge of C#: Advanced proficiency in C# programming within Unity.

  • Experience with Addressables: Hands-on experience with Unity's Addressables for content management and delivery.

  • Content Management Skills: Deep familiarity with art asset pipelines in Unity, content management systems, and supporting systems infrastructure.

  • Systems Engineering Skills: Strong understanding of scalable system design and performance optimization. Experience with combining and optimizing art assets.

  • Problem-Solving & Team Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines.

  • Experience in Multiplayer Game Development: Familiarity with real-time multiplayer game systems is a plus.

Salary ranges may be inclusive of several career levels and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
